Antiques Wardrobe Closets: Where and How To Sell
69Did you inherit a cool antique wardrobe closet from your parents or grandparents? Or are you just ready to part with the one you've always had but don't want or have room for anymore?
There are many ways you can get rid of this antique closet. Well, not exactly "get rid of". More precisely, I mean to trade it for money - in other words, to sell the antique wardrobe closet!
In this Hub, we will take a look at how to prepare antique wardrobe closets for selling and then give some ideas on where and how to sell it.
Prepare Your Wardrobe Closet For Selling
You first need to get it into tip top shape for selling. This means, of course, removing everything from the inside and cleaning it inside out. Get a nice but non abbrasive wood cleaner and apply it to the wardrobe closet. Test a small area first to ensure it won't stain or otherwise mess up the existing wooden finish.
Once the unit itself is clean and nice looking, move it to an area with a non-invasive background and prepare it for photographs.
These will be the pictures used later on to advertise it online. You'll want to put in some where it stands out on its own and has good lights. Take a ton of pictures. There's no reason to show any less than 10 pictures to potential customers.
In fact, the more the merrier. Take shots of the unit as a whole, and then close up. Show it with and without the drawers closed. If the unit has any carvings, art, or engravings, definitely take photos of these that show it off.
Where to Sell It
I suggest you sell it through the internet. There's little point in using paid newspaper classified ads these days - the internet is where it's at for buying and selling anything and everything.
The first and easiest method is your local Craigslist. Why? Because it's free!
Get an account and place an ad. Make sure to include any relevant words in the title description that people would use to find your product. In this case, I suggest "antique", "wardrobe closet", "furniture", and "armoire". Craigslist will allow you to place some photos in the ad too. However, you need to show off your item and to do this, you need more photos than Craigslist will allow. Get some storage space for free from something like Flicker or Yahoo Photos. Then, you'll need a tiny bit of code to make the photos work on the Craiglist ad. It's not hard, it's just this:
<img src="INSERT PHOTO URL HERE WITH NO SPACES">
That will make a photo show up. It's as simple as that. Do that for each photo, and your ad will stand out from any one else using Craigslist free photo service, which shows 1 very small picture.
If this doesn't work, you can try and sell it on Ebay. Do everything advised above be realize Ebay will take a cut of your profit. You also have to pay a listing fee even if you don't sell it. You also need to know that as a new seller, people might be less likely to buy from you. And at the same time, be prepared to deal with shipping it out correctly. You actually need to settle that question before posting the ad on Ebay so that you can tell potential buyers how the shipping costs will work.

Other Methods
If these two methods don't work, don't fret. There are other ways. Consider selling the unit at a garage sale. Don't want to have a garage sale? No worries - convince a friend to do so!
You can even go so far as to consult with a specialty shop that sells antiques and see if you can place the item for sale their and share some of the money with the owner. Or, on the same note, consult with an antique dealer and offer to sell the antique wardrobe closet directly to him or her. Are they interested in buying? You won't know until you ask!
