Wardrobe Closets Around the Home

Wardrobe closets are a fascinating home decor item that is coming back in a big way. It's rare to find a piece of furniture that is also a functional and useful storage item, yet the classic wardrobe closet is just that. Taking a distinctive look and feel that appeals to a time long past, these closets give an interesting vibe to any home they are in. At a time when it feels like everything is mass produced and basically not unique, having an old fashioned, wooden wardrobe closet really stands out.

While it's true that most are actually mass produced too, they are often designed to have that old school "feel" and "look" to them. This is something you just cannot get from big box retailers any more. Plywood doesn't really equate with a solid wood wardrobe closet, now does it!

A Quick Look Back In Time

Wardrobe closets have been around for hundreds of years. Strange as it may seem, of course at one point, the dwellings where we lived did not always have closets like we do now. Instead the closet built as a stand alone unit. Those who could afford it put a lot of time and effort into acquiring - or even making! - a unique storage unit for their clothes.

Many families have wardrobe closets that have passed down from one generation to the next.

Wardrobe closets, also known as an "armoires", continue to carry this legacy of respectability into their designs.

Modern Day Wardrobe Closets

Modern day wardrobe closets replicate the look and feel of historical designs. This starts by using real wood - wood that is solid and durable, not cheap and hollow. Designers often create units with elaborate art carved into the wood, which is then all covered with a fine finish.

As you can see, not much has changed from old fashioned to modern day units!

Standard and Bonus Features

A wardrobe closet is designed to store your clothes. On the outside, you typically see the standard model that has 2 or 3 drawers at the bottom, beneath 2 to 3 doors at top which open up into a storage unit. Inside you'll find either the familiar closet space, with a closet rod for hanging clothes, or a series of shelves for storing folded clothes.

Some units have the added feature of a mirror on the inside of the door for easy viewing. You may also find that the shelves and drawers are entirely adjustable, allowing you to organize things in a custom way that fits your needs. (For instance,  to allow for storing longer hanging items such as dresses.)

These features are not earth shattering - they simply allow for clothing storage. So why do people spend so much money for this?

The Aesthetic Appeal of the Classic Wardrobe Closet

The money that is spent for a classy wardrobe closet is - well, not to laugh at. It's common to start at a few hundred dollars but more common to spend a few thousand dollars on a nice wardrobe closet. What's the purpose of spending this much money? I think it's because people want something that looks unique and also appeals to that classy, old fashioned vibe, but at the same time, is not an antique and is not about to break.

Simply put, people buy wardrobe closets because more than anything else, they like how they look! If the cost turns you off, consider purchasing a cheaper but similar item such as a good closet organizer tool or a portable closet. However, if cost is not a factor, then I'm sure you will appreciate and enjoy your purchase: it's going to be around for a long time!
